Let is look at the art of aging gracefully. When I read this it made me think of aging gracefully in a new light.
‘As we cultivate our life, our beauty becomes as much about what we are creating and doing as it is about our appearance.’
Isn’t it terrible that society tends to associate youth with beauty, but the truth is that beauty transcends every age.
Just as a deciduous tree is stunning in all its stages—from its full leafy green in the summer to its naked skeleton during winter and everything in between—human beings are just as beautiful throughout their life spans.
For most of us, the early years of our lives tend to be about learning and experiencing as much as we possibly can. We move through the world like sponges, absorbing the ideas of other people and the world.
Like a tree in spring, we are waking up to the world.
In this youthful and exuberant phase of life, our physical strength, youth, and beauty help open doors and attract attention.
Gradually, we begin to use the information we have gathered to form ideas and opinions of our own. As we cultivate our philosophy about life, our beauty becomes as much about what we are saying, doing, and creating as it is about our appearance. Like a tree in summer, we become full, expressive, beautiful, and productive.
When the time comes for us to let go of the creations of our middle lives, we are like a tree in autumn dropping leaves, as we release our past attachments and prepare for a new phase of growth.
Then the children move on, and careers shift or end. The lines on our faces, the stretch marks, and the grey hairs are beautiful testaments to the fullness of our experiences during our lives.
In the winter of our lives, we become stripped down to our essence like a tree. We may become more radiant than ever at this stage because our inner light shines brighter through our eyes as time passes.
Beauty at this age comes from the very core of our being—our essence. This essence is a reminder that there is nothing to fear in growing older and that there is a kind of beauty that comes only after one has spent many years on earth.
And that my friends, is the art of aging gracefully!
Dear Michel,
Thank you for sharing this article with us. I am only 30 years old right now. However, I’m very aware that I’m aging as well. Being 20 felt like it was yesterday. Trying to enjoy life to the fullest and making time for family and friends. That’s how I want to spend most of my days here on earth. By doing so I can be confident that I will age gracefully as well. Keep up the good work. See ya!
For sure Vincent. Making the most of each day is what it is all about.
Fantastic post! I turned 55 about two weeks ago and I admit I’m struggling with it. But every time I get upset about turning another year older, I remember the decision my mother made when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. She said, “I’ll never be upset on my birthday again – I’ll take every birthday I can get!” I have to say, though, that I’m a bit surprised at how “OK” I feel with my age. Of course I’m taking steps to stay youthful with diet, exercise, skin care, makeup, etc But for the most part….ehhh….I’m alright. LOL Thanks again.
Hey, thank you for creating this amazing post which many think of negatively often!
You have gracefully demonstrated and reminded us that aging is a natural process that can be beautiful when you take a closer look and put behind the flaws or look for the positives! Beauty can be found at every age!
Have a great day!
I agree Sariyah. Aging happens to everyone, and I firmly believe that if you look after yourself, you will age gracefully and have vibrant health right into old age.
This is a great article for women of any age. I appreciate the information presented. Knowing that we all age, we have to be aware of the tips and techniques that you presented to do it gracefully. Keeping up with our health issues and beauty regime is important. Exercising and eating right help us feel and look younger. Thanks again for an uplifting article.
I believe that beauty comes from the core of our being at any age. There are many young folks with natural beauty that do not display it fully because of limiting ideas and beliefs about themselves. I remember years ago when visiting my aunt in Connecticut and remarking to her that she was “aging gracefully”. She had such as wonderful attitude and outlook on life full of love and kindness. Appreciate your share very much.
Well said Joseph and I totally agree with you.
This is a great reflection on the beauty of aging gracefully. It’s so true that beauty comes from within and is not limited to our physical appearance. It’s important to embrace all the stages of life with joy and confidence.
The importance of aging gracefully is about more than just physical beauty. It is about having a sense of acceptance and contentment with who we are and what we have experienced throughout our lives. You delivered this so beautifully. Thank you for sharing this with us.
