Tips For Beauty Using Citrus
Styling Gel
The protein from the gelatin in this recipe gives the hair extra body. This recipe makes 230 grams or 8 ounces of styling gel.
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup fresh pink grapefruit juice
1 tbsp of unflavored gelatin
1 tsp glycerin
Combine the warm water and the gelatin. Stir until the gelatin has dissolved.
Add the grapefruit juice and glycerin and stir until well combined.
Refrigerate until solid (a few hours).
Remove from the fridge and allow the gel to return to room temperature before using.
Apply a small amount of this gel to your hair before or after drying to add body and hold.
Orange And Mint Toner
Because fresh oranges are rich in vitamin C, this toner will help to freshen and protect your complexion.
The mint leaves are rich in iron and at the same time, the menthol helps to tighten your pores after cleansing.
This recipe makes 350 ml or 12 ounces of toner.
1 orange peel
3 tbsp fresh mint leaves or 1 tbsp dried mint
2 cups of boiling water
1 tbsp witch hazel
Place the orange peel and the mint leaves in a ceramic bowl. Pour the boiling water over them and allow the mixture to seep and cool completely.
Strain out the mint leaves and orange peel and stir in the witch hazel.
Pour into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid.
Apply the toner to your skin after cleansing with a clean cotton pad. You can also use in a spray bottle after bathing or as a skin freshener throughout the day.
Nail Whitener
When nails become discoloured from nail polish, paint or other substances, this is a simple treatment to safely bleach your nails back to their natural colour.
This recipe makes 30 ml or 1 ounce of nail whitener.
2 tbsp orange flower water
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
Mix the ingredients together and pour into a clean container.
When using, apply with a clean cotton swab to clean dry nails and allow to dry. Repeat 2 – 3 times.
This can be done every couple of days until your nails return to their natural colour.
Make sure to moisturize your hands and cuticles, as the lemon will have a drying effect.
Citrus Scrub
Be sure to save your citrus peel whenever you eat citrus, as it can be easily dried and ground in a food processor. You can also purchase citrus peel like this.
This recipe makes 1 ounce or 30 ml of citrus scrub.
1 tbsp of dried citrus peel
2 tbsp plain yoghurt or sour cream
1 tsp honey
Mix together all the ingredients and stir until smooth.
Massage into damp skin and rinse well with warm water.
Pat skin dry and store any leftover citrus scrub in the fridge.
Bonus Tips For Beauty Using Citrus
Freckles And Age Spots
Use the acidic juice from a fresh lemon to safely fade and remove dark patches from your skin.
Rub the lemon juice on the spot using a cotton ball twice daily and you will see a difference in 6 to 8 weeks.
Bath Time
Float fresh citrus slices in your bath water for a relaxing and energizing bath.
Citrus fruits are full of vitamins and natural acids that will give you clean and healthy skin. The scent is fresh and uplifting and this will give your body, mind and spirit an instant energy boost.
Exfoliate Your Skin
If you have dead skin and clogged pores on your face, then you can use orange peel. The peel grated and rubbed gently on your skin will both exfoliate and cleanse old dead skin cells. It will help shrink your pores and your skin will be left looking clear and glowing.
Dandruff
After shampooing your hair, try rinsing your scalp with a cup of water with a couple of tablespoons of lemon, lime or grapefruit juice added.
The acid in the juice will help soften and remove dead skin from the scalp, leaving it clean and dandruff free.
Rinse well with water and repeat the treatment if needed in a day or two.
Rough Elbows
To soften the dead skin on your elbows, simply cut a lemon in half and sit with your elbows propped in each half for about ten minutes.
Rinse and moisturise your skin well. This also works well for rough spots on your feet and knees.
