How To Start Practicing Mindfulness

Let’s take a look at how to start practicing mindfulness in the simplest way possible, because it is easier if you have a definite point at which you can start.

Beginning to practice mindfulness can be a little overwhelming.

It’s all about bringing your body back to the present moment.

But that doesn’t come easy to us all (trust me, I know)

However, there is a quick and easy exercise that you an use anytime and anywhere.

All you need to do is….

Once a day, pause where you are and focus on:

5 things you can see

4 things you can feel

3 things you can hear

2 things you can smell

1 thing you can taste

And that is it.

Try it and see for yourself.

Finding a moment of peace can feel impossible when you’re balancing a household alone, but your tips make mindfulness feel like something I can actually manage between laundry and bedtime stories. I love the idea that it doesn’t require a quiet room or hours of free time, but rather just a simple shift in how I experience the chaos of my daily routine. It’s a gentle reminder that taking care of my own mental space is just as important as taking care of everyone else’s.

  2. Hi Michel,

This is such a simple but surprisingly powerful exercise. I’ve tried similar grounding techniques before, especially during busy days when everything feels a bit scattered, and it really does pull your attention back into the present without overthinking it. What I like most is how practical it is no setup, no app, no perfect environment needed. You can literally do it while standing in line or sitting in traffic, and it still works. The only thing I’ve noticed is that it gets even more effective if you slow your breathing a little while doing it, just to really anchor yourself into each sense. Definitely something worth building into a daily routine rather than treating it as a once in a while trick. I also read some of your relevant articles, the way you breakdown things simply was unique and easy to understand.

    1. Thank you for that Shafna. Slowing down the breathing definitely helps a lot if you want to calm down and de stress.
